MariBank is teasing the return of cashback on foreign transactions, with the digital bank hinting at a comeback for a perk previously offered to cardholders who spent overseas.

In a social media teaser, MariBank Philippines highlighted its existing overseas card features, including zero foreign transaction fees on in-store purchases and free international ATM withdrawals, before hinting that a cashback benefit would return soon.

The bank said the perk would be officially launched in November, but has yet to disclose its cashback rate, spending limits, or full eligibility rules in the teaser.

The announcement may interest Filipinos planning overseas trips or making purchases from international merchants, particularly those looking to earn rewards while managing foreign currency expenses.

What MariBank cardholders previously received

MariBank previously advertised 3% cashback on overseas in-store card transactions, according to an earlier version of its listing on the Apple App Store. The listing also promoted 1% cashback on local card transactions, alongside free overseas ATM withdrawals and zero foreign transaction fees for in-store purchases abroad.

However, those earlier rewards should not be treated as the terms of the upcoming comeback. MariBank has not yet confirmed whether the returning benefit will carry the same cashback rate, cover the same transaction types, or come with a spending cap.

Zero foreign transaction fees do not cover every overseas purchase

MariBank's existing card benefits already offer savings for certain transactions abroad, but its fee rules differ between in-store and online purchases.

According to the bank's help center, MariBank does not charge an additional fee for in-store purchases abroad made with its physical card. Overseas online payments, however, incur a 2% fee.

This applies as a foreign currency markup when the transaction is charged in a foreign currency, or as a dynamic currency conversion fee when the transaction is charged in Philippine pesos.

The bank also lists international ATM withdrawals as free on its side, although the ATM operator may impose its own fee.

These distinctions are worth checking before using the card abroad. A purchase made at a physical store overseas may have different fees and rewards from an online subscription, travel booking, or other payment processed by an international merchant.

MariBank Philippines, Inc. is regulated by the Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas (BSP). Deposits are insured by the Philippine Deposit Insurance Corporation (PDIC) up to ₱1 million per depositor.
