Narinig mo na ba ito? You buy something, it turns out broken and the cashier points to the sign.
Here is what they are not telling you.
Under the Consumer Act of the Philippines (RA 7394), if a product is defective, you have three rights, no matter what the sign says:
🔧 Repair — they must fix it for free, within 30 days
🔄 Replace — if fixing it does not work
💰 Refund — if they cannot replace it
These are called the 3Rs. No store sign can take them away from you.
A few things to remember:
✅ Stores can say no to change-of-mind returns — like wrong size or changed preference. But if the product is actually broken or not working — you are protected.
✅ This applies to online sellers too, not just physical stores.
⚠️ The 3Rs do not apply if the damage was caused by your own misuse of the product.
If a store refuses:
1️⃣ Talk to the manager — mention RA 7394
2️⃣ Take a photo or video of the defect
3️⃣ Report to DTI — call 1-384 or email ConsumerCare@dti.gov.ph
And while we are on the topic of shopping, the best way to shop is with the right credit card. Some cards give you cashback on every purchase, purchase protection, and even extended warranty benefits on top of what the law already gives you.
