CIMB explores sale as it streamlines operations

CIMB Group is exploring the sale of its Philippine unit as it looks to streamline its operations and focus on markets with greater growth opportunities, Bloomberg previously reported.

The group is working with financial advisers and has contacted prospective buyers to gauge their interest in acquiring the business.

CIMB Bank Philippines is a fully licensed digital-only commercial bank that provides services through mobile platforms. CIMB entered the Philippine market in December 2018 and had 10 million customers in the country as of September 2025.

CIMB operates across Southeast Asia

Beyond the Philippines, CIMB Group has operations in Indonesia, Singapore, Thailand, Cambodia, and Vietnam. It also has additional operations in China, Hong Kong, and the United Kingdom.

The reported sale would mark a potential change in ownership for CIMB’s Philippine business, though the banks involved have yet to publicly confirm their interest or disclose any details about a possible transaction.
