Foreign exchange fees are charges added when a card is used for a transaction in a legal tender different from the card's home currency.
GCash said these fees typically range from 1% to 3% among credit and debit cards, which means the cost can accumulate as travelers make multiple purchases throughout a trip.
For example, a traveler who spends the equivalent of ₱50,000 overseas could pay an additional ₱500 to ₱1,500 if their card applies a 1% to 3% forex fee. With the GCash Card's 0% Forex Fees, that particular charge is removed from the equation.
The feature can be useful for both larger purchases and everyday travel expenses, including meals, transportation, shopping, and other essentials, positioning itself as a go-to option for Filipinos who want more efficient budgeting.
The 0% Forex Fees feature takes effect on August 15, according to GCash.
