Wise has also expanded how customers can spend money locally. Users can now pay merchants through QR Ph directly from their Wise balance, whether they hold PHP or another supported currency.
This means foreign travelers visiting the Philippines can also make QR payments without needing to open a Philippine bank account or set up a local e-wallet. Freelancers receiving income from overseas clients can also use Wise's Auto Conversion feature to convert funds automatically when their preferred exchange rate is reached.
Small businesses also get a higher receiving limit, as Wise Business customers can now receive up to ₱500,000 in real-time domestic payments through InstaPay, which the company said can help businesses manage payroll, inventory purchases, and supplier payments.
The expansion comes as more Filipinos manage money across borders. Wise cited its own research showing that while 81% of Filipino consumers said they understood the cost of international payments, only 20% were aware of hidden foreign exchange fees.
The company also estimated that Filipino consumers paid ₱8.37 billion, or about $146 million, in hidden foreign exchange fees in 2023.
